Storing china and jewellery in the storage unit in Vienna

Unsure how to store your fine china or chandelier? Ever thought of self storage in Vienna?

Storing china and jewellery

Moving house is stressful enough without having to worry about broken china. You probably don't wear your finest jewellery every day, nor do you host afternoon tea every day.

That's why storing these valuables properly is a great idea.

In this article, you will learn how to store valuables safely so that they easily survive the transition period in a storage unit (whether in Vienna or elsewhere).

Storing jewellery

Tip: Many of our storage units feature 24-hour surveillance and PIN access.

Before storing, clean your fine items thoroughly. Consult a professional or use jewellery cleaner to polish them yourself.

Keep items stored separately

Do you know what happens when you pack your necklace, brooch and drop earrings together? The ends get tangled and scratches can occur.

Wrap each item in acid-free tissue paper, untreated cotton or raw silk to prevent minor disasters.

Useful tip: The easiest place to find these protective covers is in art supply shops and online stores.

Place it on a cushion

You can attach pins, brooches and earrings to a cushion or board to prevent damage and loss.

Hang necklaces on hooks

To keep them tangle-free, hang your chains and necklaces on hooks or keep them in the small box they came in.

Avoid chemicals

Protect your jewellery with acid-free tissue paper and avoid contact with chemically treated materials.

Watch the temperature

Direct sunlight, high temperatures and humidity can damage jewellery. Heat can even cause discolouration. Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place.

Storing china

Invest in bubble wrap. Wrap each piece carefully to avoid breakages.

Store on their side

Stacking your plates like pancakes makes them more likely to break. As a rule, the edges of plates, saucers and bowls are sturdier than the centre area. Stacking your crockery on its side helps protect it.

Don't pack too much at once

It's better to put fewer dishes into a moving box. Firstly, it is easier to carry, and secondly, delicate items are more likely to break if you overpack the box. You can fill the remaining space with light textiles.

Label everything

Want to use your lovely fine china right away in your new home? Rushing around hunting for a specific item can quickly lead to accidents. Labelling your boxes helps you find what you're looking for immediately without searching through every crate.

Once all that is sorted, you can focus on the things that really matter.
