Save space with a storage unit
The size of a house doesn't determine how spacious it actually feels. A few small and large tricks will help you make the most of the available space.
Kitchen tricks
Plastic bags are a total space hog. If you don't keep them in check, they quickly spread and take over the entire area under the sink.
One or two Kleenex boxes can help. You can stuff them as full as you want – the plastic bags are kept under control.
The old tension rod trick under the sink
A tension rod fitted under the sink is perfect for hanging cloths, spray bottles with cleaning supplies, etc. Since your plastic bags are tucked away and all cleaning items are lined up nicely, you've actually created usable storage space under your sink.
Ninja baskets
Hidden baskets are brilliant. Use adhesive hooks to attach a lightweight plastic basket to the inside of a cupboard door in the hallway, under the sink or in the bedroom. Now you have a handy spot for sponges, brushes and small accessories.
Knives in the bathroom?
You know those magnetic strips used to hold knives and keep the kitchen tidy? The same system works in the bathroom. A magnetic strip on a bathroom wall can be the ideal storage spot for clippers, nail scissors, tweezers and other small metal items like bobby pins and hair accessories.
Bedroom hacks
Your bedroom should be a peaceful sanctuary, not a cluttered room. The following hacks will help you on that mission.
Hang up a slatted bed base
What – no spare bed slats lying around? What a pity. These simple wooden slats can easily be turned into a huge wall feature. Hang them up, add a few S-hooks, and decorate the frame with clothes, accessories, shoes, magazines, or anything else that doesn't fit in your wardrobe. A few hanging potted plants and photo frames can turn these slatted bases into a real statement piece.
These boots were made for hanging
Too many pairs of knee-high boots? Free up floor space by hanging them in pairs using boot clips. That's it. That's the whole hack. You're welcome.
Scarves can hang too
Speaking of hangers, you only need one clothes hanger to organise all your scarves. Colour-code them, squeeze them together, and create a beautiful rainbow that takes up almost no space. The same trick works for ties, baseball caps, or shoelaces.
Ice and jewellery?
Ice cube trays make wonderful jewellery organisers. Keep your earrings separated and stop your necklaces from getting tangled up with your bracelets.
From shelf to shelf
There is no room in your home that can't be improved and made more practical with shelves. An empty wall is essentially like a roommate who doesn't pay rent: useless.
We rarely use the full height of a room. Installing shelves in these spots kills two birds with one stone: it creates order and adds a stylish accent.
Mount shelves along the walls above the doors – on three or four walls of the bedroom. Place decorative items on them that you rarely need (like a beer helmet or a cardboard Christmas tree).
The same system works as bookshelves and toy storage in the children's room.
