Even a simple room can become a fun venue with a few tricks. It’s party time! Reach your goal in 4 steps.
Even a simple room can become a fun venue with a few tricks. It’s party time! Reach your goal in 4 steps.
1. Declutter & sort
This step might not be particularly inspiring, but it is necessary. Garages often serve as a dumping ground for broken and discarded items. Get rid of them!
Sort through what's in the garage:
· Keep: Items go into the garden shed, your store room or one of our storage units
· Throw away: Dispose of properly
· Sell: Donate, organise a car boot sale, or put them online.
2. Clean from top to bottom:
Once the garage is clear, it's time to roll up your sleeves and get to work.
Clean properly by working from top to bottom.
Put on protective goggles first. Remove cobwebs and loose dirt using a soft-bristled broom. Next, tackle the ceiling:
Mix a little all-purpose cleaner with warm water in a bucket.
· Wipe the ceiling using a sponge
Clean the garage walls
Next, put on protective gloves and grab a soft-bristled brush to remove dust and dirt from the walls.
Then change the water and wipe down the walls with a cloth from top to bottom.
Clean the garage floor
- Vacuum up coarse dirt.
- Mop the floor with lukewarm water
- Scrub stubborn spots with a stiff brush
Get rid of oil stains and similar marks overnight using the following paste: mix hydrogen peroxide and flour with water, then apply. Remove with a scraper the next day.
Renovate your garage: now the fun begins
After clearing out the junk (and spiders) from the garage, it's time to decide how to use your newfound space:
- If you mainly want to watch movies with friends, paint the walls a dark colour for a cosy cinema feel.
- If you're using the garage as a party room for kids, fit carpets to prevent slipping or injuries.
- A games room? Prepare the space for a pool table and board games – take inspiration from casino decor.
The quickest and cheapest DIY tricks:
- Paint walls
- Lay new flooring
- Buy new, brighter lights
Requiring a bit more expertise:
- Extra power sockets
- Windows
- Heating/air conditioning
- Insulation
